GemFest 2025: Supporting Young People in a Cost of Living Crisis

In 2025, attending a major UK festival can cost upwards of £250–£300, with ticket prices alone often well over £150. For many young people, especially in the midst of a cost of living crisis, these prices simply aren’t realistic.

That’s why GemFest 2025 was created: to give the next generation a safe, exciting, and affordable cultural experience – right here in the local area.

With tickets priced at just £80, GemFest is one of the most accessible music festivals in the UK. While other festivals chase profit, GemFest prioritises community, creativity, and young talent.

A recent graphic comparison (see image below) highlights just how extreme the gap has become — with major events now charging close to £400. GemFest is proud to offer an alternative that doesn’t shut anyone out.

We understand some local concerns, and we’re listening. But it’s worth considering the bigger picture:

  • GemFest provides local employment opportunities and builds partnerships with independent businesses and vendors.

  • It offers young people a creative outlet, reducing antisocial behaviour by giving them something to work towards and be proud of.

  • It brings positive attention to the region, while keeping ticket prices low enough to be genuinely inclusive.

At a time when opportunities for young people are increasingly limited, festivals like GemFest play an important role in building community and giving young voices a stage – both literally and figuratively.

This isn’t just a festival. It’s a grassroots effort to bring people together, support the local economy, and prove that young people deserve spaces where they can express themselves safely and affordably.
